The City of Monroe runs its own water system in Walton County, serving about 24,000 people. The water is drawn from the John T. Briscoe Reservoir on the Alcovy River. Monroe disinfects with chlorine and chlorine dioxide, two chlorine-based cleaners, and neither one is chloramine, a related chemical some other utilities switch to instead. The City of Monroe's own 2026 water quality report, covering test results from 2025, shows lower numbers than the multi-year figures above. It catches what the carbon tank alone doesn't, including chromium-6, and it takes out fluoride too. It serves that one faucet only.

Monroe's yearly water quality report doesn't publish a hardness number, so we won't guess one for you. We only recommend a water softener when hardness measures 121 parts per million or higher. If your water carries rust or sediment, for example from old galvanized pipes, the no-power tank isn't the right fit. The drinking-water filter's cartridges need changing once a year - we'll do it for $175 with filters included, or you can do it yourself for about $80-100 in filters. Filters and carbon wear out by design and aren't covered under warranty.
